TUI CARE FOUNDATION BRINGS ORGANIC WINES TO HOLIDAY MAKERS IN LANZAROTE

    • Centuries-old wine growing technique revived in La Geria region
    • Local organic wines served in hotels and holiday makers introduced to local wine culture

August 2018 – Holiday makers visiting La Geria in Lanzarote will be able to enjoy some of the region’s signature wines this summer thanks to an initiative supported by the TUI Care Foundation’s ‘TUI Cares’ programme.   TUI guests visiting the Hotel Seaside Los Jameos Playa in Puerto del Carmen or the TUI Family Life Flamingo Beach Resort in Playa Blanca will be able to enjoy wines from three wineries – Bermejo, Vega de Yuco and La Geria Bodega.

Wine fans can enjoy seven nights at the Hotel Seaside Los Jameos Playa on a half board basis when booked online from £697* per person departing from Birmingham Airport on 30th August. Prices are for two people sharing.   TUI offers seven nights at the TUI Family Life Flamingo Beach Resort on an all inclusive basis from £524.55* per person travelling from London Luton Airport on 30th August.   Prices are based on online bookings for a family of four sharing.

Local hotel staff are being trained in the history of local winemaking and how to encourage guests to try local produce.

The age old practice of nurturing vines in pits surrounded by protective lave stones is gradually being abandoned as it’s too time intensive. Working with expert advisers from Futouris, a German non-profit organisation and local charity Grevislan, local farmers are reviving the practice to produce premium organic wines. The initiative not only supports production but opens up distribution channels to get the wines on to menus in hotels and restaurants around the region.
